A parade for Queen Elizabeth IIs Platinum Jubilee was disrupted Thursday by animal rights activists linked to the Extinction Rebellion climate group.
The Animal Rebellion activists jumped over barricades in St. James Park in London as Grenadier Guards marched in a Trooping the Colors ceremony. The groups demands include ending hunting on royal land.
As the largest landowner in the UK, the Crown needs to support rapid and immediate transition of farm land for rewilding and we will not stop taking action until they do, the group said in a statement.
The Crown is doing nothing while millions are already suffering from rising global temperatures, unnatural disasters and the cost of living crisis right here in the UK, the group said.
Police tackled and dragged some of the protesters out of the path of the parade, and several arrests were made, according to Scotland Yard.
In August of last year, Animal Rebellion activists dyed the fountains of Buckingham Palace red. The group also says they have big actions planned for this summer against the dairy industry.
