Video shows Tamworth Castle lit up as a beacon Thursday night to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee.
The flames of a torch were projected onto the high walls of the castle in Staffordshire. It was one of more than 1,500 beacons lit in the U.K. and Commonwealth countries to mark 70 years since the queen’s accession to the throne.
Beacons also marked the queen’s silver, golden, and diamond jubilees, and in 1897, beacons were lit for Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee, marking 60 years on the throne.
The four-day celebration opened Thursday morning with the Trooping of the Color, and continued through the weekend with numerous events, from church services to street parties.
