Prince William’s former chef recalls his ’embarrassing’ birthday party thrown by Princess Diana featuring supermodels, topless cake

Prince William turns 40 on Tuesday, and while he’s likely celebrating with family, his birthday festivities won’t be nearly as wild as they were when he turned 13, so says his former chef.
Darren McGrady worked as a personal chef to Queen Elizabeth, Princess Diana, and Princes William and Harry, for a total of 15 years. In a new video, the former royal chef reflected on the 13th birthday party Princess Diana threw for her oldest son, featuring a surprise visit from some of the world’s biggest supermodels, including Naomi Campbell.
William came home and came up to the apartment and the supermodels were there waiting, sitting on the sofa. He was just so embarrassed! McGrady recalled.
William wasn’t the only one surprised that day, though. McGrady recalled going into his refrigerator and discovering a birthday cake of a topless lady.
I was really shocked when I found out the princess had ordered it and I think it shocked William too! he said with a laugh.
McGrady still remembers what it was like to cook for the princes when they were young. He said it was William who had a sweet tooth for chocolate like his grandmother. McGrady assumed the future king of England would be indulging in a chocolate cake today.
Kate loves to cook. I love to think that she’s been in the kitchen working with the children and they’ve made a beautiful birthday cake for William to celebrate with the family, said the chef, who re-released his cookbook Eating Royally this year in honor of Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee.
McGrady said it has warmed his heart to see William grow up over the years and continue his late mother’s charitable efforts. Most recently, the prince made headlines for selling Big Issue magazine on the streets of London to raise awareness for homelessness.
I think his passion for helping the homeless is just incredible and I think it stems from his mother and what she taught him, he said.
The cookbook author and chef, who now lives in Texas, added that he believes the future of the monarchy is in good hands with Prince William, Kate Middleton and their three children.
